On Saturday, June 9, 2018 Kurdistan Parliament Presidency Board has released an announcement, denouncing the Iraqi parliament’s declaration to scrap Peshmerga, Asayesh, and Police forces votes cast in the May 12 election and calling the move illegitimate and illegal.

The following is the announcement:

The Iraqi parliament passed a bill on Wednesday 6/6/2018 ordering 100% manual recount of all votes cast in the May 12 parliamentary election, the cancelation of all votes cast by the Kurdistan Region’s security personnel.

Kurdistan Parliament Presidency Board is strongly concerned that due to that decree of Iraqi Parliament Iraq now is passing through an unstable political condition although Kurdistan Parliament supports any legal means to recounting of all votes in order to confirm the final results of the election. Kurdistan Parliament Presidency Board raises concerns over the cancellation of the votes of Kurdish Peshmerga and security forces. Kurdistan Parliament calls the move against the Constitution of Iraq and warns it has put the political process in both Iraq and Kurdistan into an absolute deadlock.

Kurdistan Parliament Presidency Board also declares that the Peshmerga and security forces are the brave forces that have supported the people of Kurdistan, Iraq, and the world during the war against ISIS over the past few years. So it is not reasonable that the Iraqi Council of Representatives has decreed to revoke their votes.

Kurdistan Parliament Presidency Board calls for Iraq’s Federal court to try to resolve constitutional affairs surrounding Iraq’s election. The Board also calls for all Kurdish and Iraqi political parties to respect the will of voters and the results of the election.
